O motorista que fez reféns 51 crianças e ateou fogo ônibus na quarta-feira pretendia usá-las como escudo para embarcar no aeroporto de Milão para a África. Ousseynou Sy, 47, senegalês naturalizado italiano, disse querer chamar atenção para a crise dos refugiados, mas não pretendia machucar ninguém. A defesa pediu avaliação psiquiátrica de Sy, que segundo a imprensa local, odiaria os "brancos que colonizaram a África", obrigando os africanos a imigrar e "morrer afogados no Mediterrâneo".
